IDEAL ist ein handlungsorientiertes Problemlösungsmodell (John D. Bransford, Barry S. Stein 1993), das in fünf Schritten den CPS-Ansatz verkürzt und vereinfacht nachbildet:

1. I: Identify problems and opportunities (Problem- und Gelegenheitenidentifizierung)
2. D: Define goals and represent the problem (Problemdefinition und -repräsentation)
3. E: Explore possible strategies (Lösungsstrategieentwicklung)
4. A: Anticipate outcomes and Act on strategies (Umsetzungsaktionen)
5. L: Look back, evaluate the effects of your activities and Learn (Rückschau, Erfolgsabschätzung, Lernen).
